We acknowledge the original inhabitants, the indigenous culture, of the Austin area. We are here today on occupied and unceded land on the traditional territory of the Jumano, Tonkawa, Lipan Apache, Coahuiltecan, and Comanche people, who wandered and stewarded this land for generations. We honor the First People by naming and acknowledging the history of what was done and is being done to those who were here first, because colonialism is a current ongoing process. We offer our respect and acknowledgement to the people who were stewards of this land long before the people from Europe, Asia, or Africa called it their home. We are settlers/colonists on this land, otherwise known as Austin Texas, and that is something we should never forget.
